Alright, it might not be the most accurate scene of the movie as far as going along with the book, but the climactic effect is still there: Frankenstein condemned himself to a lifetime of torture, similar to how the Greek god Prometheus did, by creating his monster. Mary Shelley gave the subtitle "Modern Prometheus" because she felt the main character in her story, Victor Frankenstein, had many similarities to the god. Both brought something considered "forbidden" to mankind, creating a problem they both eventually had no control over, as well as learning their lesson of tampering with the laws of nature. It takes time, severe punishment and torture, and for each man to understand their fault; perhaps ignorance is bliss after all.
